Urban permaculture

Urban permaculture is the application of permaculture design to urban environments. It utilizes the same concepts as rural and suburban permaculture, but differs in how these concepts are applied and which techniques are used. Zone mapping can be greatly limited due to smaller area. Incorporation of certain elements like many tree species and most animal species is also comparatively limited by available space. Urban permaculture utilizes space-saving growing techniques like container gardening. Single household urban permaculture systems are likely to produce a smaller proportion of their own food than suburban and rural systems. However, cities offer more opportunities for social permaculture than low population density areas.
