Background and Identification

Adapters are devices that convert attributes of one electrical device or system to those of another otherwise incompatible device or system. There are various types of adapters for different purposes. Some adapters modify power or signal attributes while others only adapt the physical form of one connector to another.

Travel adapters are common as countries have different electrical outlets. Many countries in Europe use 230-volt, 50 Hz AC mains electricity. Other countries use 120-volt, 60 Hz Ac, so it can be difficult to use devices from one country in another. However, travel adapters allow for the conversion.

AC to DC power supply are used to adapt electricity from household mains voltage (120 or 230 volts) to low-voltage DC, which is more suitable for consumer electronics.

Computer adapters such as a host controller connect a computer to a peripheral device such as a storage device, network, or human interface device. Adapters also allow the connecting of a peripheral device with one plug to a different jack on the computer. Most often, they are used to connect modern devices to a legacy port on an old system or legacy devices to a modern port.
