Background and Identification

The XPS 13 9333 is a laptop with a 13-inch, 1920x1080 pixel screen from Dell’s XPS 13 lineup. It was first released in late 2013 and represented the first laptop in its line with the option for a touchscreen display. The machine is powered by a 4th-generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor depending on the configuration. The case of the laptop is made from carbon fiber and aluminum with a silver finish on the top and a black speckled cover on the bottom. You can see the XPS line logo just beneath the center of the screen.

If you can’t find repair guides here on iFixit, the XPS 13 9333 owner’s manual has good documentation on how to remove most parts of the device. Removing the back cover of the laptop requires a Torx T5 screwdriver—I guess Dell didn’t want to make it too easy for someone without a set of drivers. There’s Once you are inside, most of the screws are Phillips, and both the battery and mSATA SSD are easily to remove and replace. Unfortunately, the 4 GB or 8 GB of memory for the laptop is soldered onto the motherboard, making it impossible to upgrade or repair without replacing the whole motherboard or taking it to a specialist. On the plus side, the left side ports are connected to a replaceable circuit board and the wireless card is also completely removable.

You can identify this laptop by looking on the bottom side for a small cover with the XPS logo on it. You can open this cover and find regulatory information below including the model name “XPS 13 9333” and the service tag/code. If you plug these service numbers into the Dell Support website you can find more exact information for your specific device.
