Background and Identification

Gaming headsets are over-ear headphones, usually with bluetooth or controller proprietary connectivity, combined with a built-in microphone to allow the user to communicate with other players in online multiplayer games. Gaming headsets began with designs similar to models used in industry, like at call centers or for customer service roles, but have adapted to improve audio quality, increase the frequency range, and provide more comfort for extended periods of use.

Voice chat has gained popularity much in line with the increased prevalence of multiplayer gaming. This has increased the market for headsets specifically designed and marketed for gaming applications. While most headsets provide the same basic functionality as ones produced with gaming in mind, gaming specific headsets typically include a certain design aesthetic to distinguish them from the rest. This aesthetic usually consists of dark colored bodies with striking primary or rainbow colored LEDs to make the headset light up while in use.
