Background and Identification

The IBM ThinkPad T40 is a notebook computer with a high priority on durability and mobility. The T40 model was released in March 2005 as part of Lenovo's T Series mobile workstations and is marketed towards mainstream professionals. The ThinkPad T Series was introduced by IBM in 2000 but was transferred to Lenovo, a Chinese technology company, in 2005.

The IBM ThinkPad T40 includes a 14.1-inch display with a maximum resolution of 1400 by 1050 pixels for the high-end option. This model includes the ThinkLight, an LED that illuminates the computer’s keyboard. The ThinkPad T40 features a full-sized keyboard and the ThinkPad UltraNav pointing device with a red cover that is generally included on IBM ThinkPad notebooks. The computer includes USB 2.0 ports, a low-speed 56K fax/modem, an RJ-45 Ethernet connector, email and network access, and facilities for wireless Wi-Fi equipment. It also includes two Type II PC Card slots, headphone and microphone jacks, S-Video out, and a parallel port on the rear of the computer. The T40 model was available with either six-cell or nine-cell power packs.

The IBM ThinkPad T40 includes the name "ThinkPad" in the lower right-hand corner of the laptop, underneath the keyboard at a 45-degree angle from the bottom edge of the device. It also includes the name "Lenovo" in lower-case letters in the bottom left-hand corner of the laptop's display.
