Introduction

This guide will show you how to replace damaged doll hair using the rerooting process.

Children may chop off doll hair and leave it chopped unevenly, seemingly ruined. When this hair is ruined it's possible to replace it with other doll hair or yarn. This is applicable to not only barbie dolls, but many other brands as well. Using just a reroot tool, replacement hair, and hot glue, it's possible to bring these dolls back to usable condition. Experience is not needed, but the time this process takes may vary depending on how thin you make the replacement hair and sections.

    • Cut the yarn pieces for doll hair.

    • With a ruler, measure equal pieces twice as long as intended hair length.

    • Cut enough for desired hair thickness.

    • To make up for inconsistencies in length, you may cut pieces longer and trim later.

    • Thread yarn between the forked tip of the reroot tool.

    • Attempt to thread the yarn at its midpoint for more even hair.

    • Insert the reroot tool into a small hole atop the doll's head.

    • Push the yarn inside as far as the tool will allow.

    • Remove the reroot tool from the head, leaving the yarn tucked inside.

    • Add glue to the inside of the doll's head.

    • Plug in and preheat the glue gun.

    • Insert glue gun from the base of the head.

    • Add a thicker layer of glue for stronger hair.

    • Hot glue can cause burns when exposed directly to skin.

    • After applying glue, use the blunt end of the rerooting tool to spread glue to cover the inside of the head.

    • Do this immediately after applying glue, because it will dry quickly.

    • Wait for the glue to dry (15-30 minutes).

    • Once the glue is dry, attach the Barbie head back onto the neck joint.

    • For extra styling and volume, you may separate yarn strands.
