Introduction

Removal of the touch pad will be covered in this guide. To successfully remove the battery, a #0 Phillips screwdriver, a T5 Torx screwdriver, and a plastic spudger are needed. Be careful disconnecting cables as to not break them or their connectors.

what about the module attached to the right side of the touchpad?

A fair bit of research has turned up an answer. The photo in step 5 shows a small, black PCB, connected by a cable, to the right side of the touchpad (as you look at the photo). This PCB is an integral part of touchpads so equipped; it connects to the NFC (Near Field Communications) module (see the white-labeled module in the upper-right corner of the photo). The NFC board connects to the logic board with the ribbon cable shown in the upper-right.

The NFC module allows the user to pair nearby devices like phones, etc., to the laptop by tapping on the center of the touchpad to initiate the pairing process. There are touchpads equipped with this feature and ones without, from which I deduce that this was an optional feature on this model. The module's cable is sandwiched in between the layers of the touchpad and, as far as I can tell, cannot be removed or installed, as you'd need to pry apart the touchpad's layers to get at it; there are no fasteners or other provisions for disassembly.

As mentioned above, there are touchpads with the PCB and ones without. They have exactly the same part number (DZ AP0YI000100, REV 0A). Therefore, if your touchpad is at fault and you are unsure whether your laptop is equipped with NFC, it would be a good idea to remove the bottom cover and battery to ascertain whether the laptop has an NFC-capable touchpad or not so that the correct part can be ordered.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
