Introduction

If your Vicks Mini Cool Mist Ultrasonic humidifier (VUL520WC) or any humidifier that you own isn’t producing mist, it is likely because of the hard water build up.

Through long time use, humidifiers start to build up hard water, especially if they are not cleaned and kept maintained regularly. This can damage the humidifier and ultimately prevent it from working.

Even if your humidifier is working with the hard water build up, it is still important to ensure that it is removed because a dirty humidifier can spread bacteria and other harmful chemicals into the air.

Use this guide to learn how to remove the hard water in order to have the humidifier producing mist normally again.

To avoid this problem, when filing add 1 tsp of vinegar to the water. It will keep yje minerals disslved longer without effecting the operation. Try to empty the vaporizer before it runs dry. It vaporizes at a constant rate regardless of the humidity, so by connecting ot through a timer you can shut it off when there's still 10-15% of the fluid left.

I have very hard water that destroyed several appliances bearings, until I added vinegar instead of bleach and fabric softener to my clothes washers, and periodically to my dishwasher. ALthought these machines are self-emptyiing, they aren't self-cleaning. My clothes get cleaner and are softer trha they were before,my dishes are cleaner and freer of spots.
