They need to be replaced because water can get under the broken shingle and cause the wood to rot or create a leak in the roof.     • Remove the broken shingle by lifting the nails with the claw side of a hammer.

    • Use caution when handling a hammer and nails.

Great post! Roof repair is something you should only really do as a quick patch though. If one of your shingles has fallen off, odds are a lot more of them are going to be falling off soon too.
