Introduction

Biking is the ideal way of travelling for individuals who may not have their drivers license or don't have easy access to a car. The Supercycle Comp Hardtail Mountain Bike 21-Speed, 27.5-in is a beginner mountain bike that can also be used for regular use. After frequent use of a bike, the tires can develop wear and tear and eventually it must be replaced to use again. So the ability to change either a bike tire, tire tube or tire rim is an important skill to have or learn.

    • Locate and disengage brake to get access to tire; this model has cantilever brakes.

    • Squeeze the two handles together shown in the first picture and that should allow you to lift up the cable.

    • The actions of squeezing and lifting should be done at the same time, as the cable is stuck in place if the handles aren't squeezed together.

    • If unable to remove tire from frame with hands, use a lever wedge.

    • To use lever wedge, pick a spot along the rim of the tire that aligns with a spoke. Place the curved part of the wedge under the tire's edge, and press down on the lever to lift the tire up over the edge of the rim, then clip the wedge on the spoke.

    • Use a second lever wedge around 3 or 4 inches away, and it should now be easy enough to remove one side of the tire off the rim by hand.

    • Insert the tire tube back into the tire by first aligning the valve with the valve hole in the rim.

    • Push the tire tube valve gently through the hole in the tire rim, then push the rest of the tire tube between the tire and the rim.

    • Use lever wedge or hands to get both sides of the tire into the rim.

    • At this stage, it should be easy enough to get both sides of the tire back into the rim, but if you are struggling along the last area, you can use a tire wedge in the opposite way as step 4 to get the tire back in the rim.
