Background and Identification

Acer Aspire U5 laptops are manufactured and sold by Acer Inc., an electronics corporation based in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Acer was founded in 1976. Originally, it specialized in consulting work and distributing for electronics, but split into sales and contracted manufacturing branches. In 2001, Acer sold the contracted manufacturing business side of the company, and began to focus purely on sales. Among the products that they sold were the Aspire computers. The Aspire series covers a wide range of functionalities and sizes, including desktops and laptops for casual household use or high-performance tasks.

The Aspire U5 includes several different models of home computers, which all include a stand on the back of the computer and no attached keyboard. The variations of these computers can be identified by the serial number or SNID. For Aspire computers, these identifying numbers will be on a white sticker on the bottom of the computer. More information on finding your serial number or SNID is available at this Acer Support page.

Aspire U5 computers have several interesting features. They can use a motion sensing camera, which allows the user to interact with the computer using hand gestures. The camera can also scan 3D objects. They also support the use of the digital Windows Cortana assistant.
