Beanie Baby

Beanie babies are a collector’s item and can be identified by two tags.

1. a heart-shaped "swing tag" on the ear
2. a fabric "tush tag" on the bottom

Beanie baby design has evolved over time. Between 1994 and 1996, the swing tags had "To" and "From" blanks in them for use as gifts. Soon after, the tags of the first 136 Beanie Babies that were introduced to the marketplace, included a date of birth for the toy as well as a four-line poem written by Line Trivedi.

Beanie Babies are deliberately under stuffed to give a more "real" appearance. Your aged toy could be livened up by adding more stuffing. First cutting the threading carefully, then add stuffing from a local craft store. If the arms, legs and/or head of your beanie baby becomes unsewn, take it as an opportunity to practice your sewing skills! Use a curved sewing needle and thread that matches the fur of the stuffed animal, so the repair is well hidden. To hide wonky stitches, tie a ribbon around the neck to hide the stitches. If the tag comes off, it can be reattached with a tagging gun which you can find in most craft/clothing stores.
