Background

The original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (often referred to as the BMPCC) was released in 2013 and quickly gained popularity due to its ability to capture cinema-quality footage in a small and portable form factor. It featured a Super 16mm-sized image sensor with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and offered the ability to record in lossless CinemaDNG RAW or ProRes formats.

Blackmagic Design has since released several upgraded versions of the Pocket Cinema Camera, each offering improvements in image quality, resolution, and features. For example, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, released in 2018, introduced a larger Micro Four Thirds sensor and the ability to record in 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second (fps). It also offered improved dynamic range and dual native ISO for better low-light performance.

In 2021, Blackmagic Design released the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro. This camera features a Super 35-sized 6K image sensor, allowing for even higher-resolution capture, along with built-in ND (neutral density) filters, an adjustable HDR touchscreen, and other professional-grade features.
