Background and Identification
Bose Corporation is an audio equipment company founded in 1964 by Amar Bose in Framingham, Massachusetts. Bose produces automotive audio systems, computer speakers, portable speakers, headphones, shelf stereos, and commercial sound systems.
SoundLink, Bose’s portable speaker series, includes battery-operated wireless speakers that connect to a source device via Bluetooth. The SoundLink series includes the SoundLink, SoundLink Mobile, SoundLink Mini, and SoundLink Color.
Bose’s shelf stereo systems include the following models: Wave, SoundDock, and SoundLink Air.
The first speaker in the Wave series, the Acoustic Wave Music System, was released in 1984. Other Wave products include the Wave Music System, the Wave Radio, and the Wave/PC. The Wave series uses a mechanism called a “waveguide” to enhance the quality of low-frequency sound.
The Bose SoundDock series (in production from 2004 to 2017) included a built-in dock for Apple devices. Products in the SoundDock series included: SoundDock series I, SoundDock series I v2, SoundDock series II, SoundDock series III, SoundDock Portable, SoundDock Portable v2, and SoundDock 10.
In 2012, Bose released the SoundLink Air, which is only compatible with Apple’s Airplay, rather than Bluetooth.
Bose’s line of computer speakers includes the MediaMate, Wave/PC, Companion 2, Companion 3, Companion 5, Companion 20, and Computer MusicMonitor.
Bose has also produced 2.1 and 5.1 channel home audio systems.
Bose has production factories in the United States, Mexico, China, and Malaysia. The United States factories are located in Massachusetts towns—Framingham, Stow, and Westborough. In Mexico, the facilities are located in Tijuana and San Luis Río Colorado. The Malaysian factory is in Batu Kawan.
