The original 1969 Kenworth 5 axle Logging Truck Old Blue

Edison Motors, founded in 2016 by Chace Barber and Eric Little, traces its roots back to the humble beginnings of a 1969 Kenworth 5 axle Logging Truck affectionately named 'Old Blue.' Graduates from university, Barber and Little initially focused on the timber industry in Merritt, BC, hauling logs with their reliable Old Blue. Their entrepreneurial spirit soon led them to new horizons, expanding their operations to transport mining equipment in the Yukon.

Edison Motors continued to make its mark in Alberta, specializing in the transportation of drilling rigs before eventually returning to its BC roots with a renewed focus on Logging. This journey started with moving cargo but became one about discovering a passion for the machinery.

As Edison Motors expanded its fleet, Barber and Little encountered challenges with the modern trucks' serviceability and repairability. Frustration quickly turned into innovation as they decided to take matters into their own hands. The company pivoted towards rebuilding older trucks from the ground up, prioritizing sustainability and longevity over acquiring new vehicles.

The turning point for Edison Motors came in 2017 when Barber and Little attempted to reserve a Tesla Semi. Faced with a four-year wait and the realization that they could expedite their vision by developing their electric trucks, they embarked on the ambitious journey of manufacturing electric semis in-house.

In addition to their groundbreaking work in the electric semi-truck space, Edison Motors has extended its commitment to sustainability to the consumer market. The company proudly offers an official Pickup Truck Conversion Kit, slated to enter production by mid-2025. This innovative kit allows users to transform their existing pickup trucks into electric vehicles with the bonus of a diesel generator.

Upgradability and Sustainability

At the heart of Edison Motors' commitment to innovation lies the unique aspect of upgradability, setting it apart in the realm of truck manufacturing. The company takes pride in offering users the ability to convert their existing trucks, provided the frame is in good condition. This revolutionary approach not only contributes to sustainability by extending the life of the vehicle but also provides a cost-effective solution for fleet owners and individual truck enthusiasts.

The upgradability feature allows users to retain the familiarity of their trusted cab, frame rails, air/electrical system, and existing mounted equipment while benefiting from a cutting-edge electric driveline.
