Background and Identification
The Elna 6000 is a sewing machine made by Elna, a Swiss brand and former manufacturer of textile machines, including fabric presses and sewing, cover stitch, and overlock machines.
Elna began as Ateliers Mécaniques de Précision Tavaro SA, which was an export division of the Tavannes Watch Company. Tavaro's first sewing machine was not sold with an official name but was referred to as Elna. Elna International Corp, SA was founded as an exporter of sewing machines. Elna permanently changed the home sewing machine market and introduced various features now considered standard on home sewing machines. Elna's most significant innovation was the 'free arm,' which houses the sewing machine's feeder and bobbin driver in an arm-shaped bed. The shape of the arm allows the material to be wrapped around the mechanism during sewing.
