Background and Identification

The Impact Uni-Vent 750 portable ventilator is an electrical portable ventilator that can be used in hospitals and households to monitor a patient's airway pressure. One of the Uni-Vent 750’s most important features is the on-board microprocessor that allows the portable ventilator to precisely control the flow, volume, and pressure of gas delivery to the patient. The Uni-Vent 750 is available for purchase from almost any third-party seller across the world, however, it is important to note that “Impact Instrumentation, Inc.,” the manufacturer of the Uni-Vent 750, was acquired by ZOLL Medical Corporation in 2014. This is why finding information on this device may prove difficult. ZOLL Medical Corporation continues to manufacture ventilators and other medical devices, although they do not promote or associate themselves with anything related to Impact Uni-Vent models such as the Uni-Vent 750.

Ventilators have been around since their creation in 1928, when professors Philip Drinker and Louis Agassiz invented them at The School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts. The ventilator is used not only in hospitals, but in households and ambulances as well. Ventilators are used both to monitor patients and to keep them in stable conditions. The selling price for this particular device ranges from about $1,800 USD, to almost $2,500 USD; depending on if the unit is used, refurbished, or new.

The Uni-Vent 750 is a specific model within a family of devices known as the Uni-Vent 700 Series, in which all models were manufactured by Impact. A similar device to the Uni-Vent 750 is the Uni-Vent 750M Portable Ventilator, which ranges from $2,000 to $3,000 USD depending on its condition. Another device within this series is the Uni-Vent 754 Transport Ventilator. The Uni-Vent 754 is much lighter than the other models in its series, and its programming sequence only takes 3 steps. However, it is much more expensive than the 750 and the 750M. The Uni-Vent 754’s cost ranges from $4,000 to $5,000 USD.

The Impact Uni-Vent 750 Portable Ventilator is a silver/gray, metal rectangular device. In the top left corner of the front panel, the words “Uni-Vent by Impact” are provided in white lettering. To the right of this lettering you will see a large twistable knob which is used to adjust patients’ flow of air. Below the knob and the white lettering is a display showing the alarm status, which is a feature that alerts its operator that there is something wrong with the device, such as a low battery. Below the alarm status and towards the middle of the device there are two black rectangular boxes that have two small twistable knobs on each. On one of the rectangles, the knobs are white, and these control rate and inspiration. On the other black rectangle, the two knobs are red, and these control pressure. To the right of these rectangular boxes there is a water meter that looks similar to a thermometer. Finally, at the bottom of the device there are two twistable knobs and one button. One of the knobs is located on the bottom left-hand corner that controls sensitivity. To the right of this knob there is a button that is known as the “manual trigger” button. To the right of the manual trigger, and located in the bottom right-hand corner of the device, there is another twistable knob that controls which mode the ventilator is in. Users of this device can tell the Uni-Vent 750 apart from other models and brands because the name and model number of the device is located on the front of the ventilator. Also, the Uni-Vent 750 does not come in multiple colors, it only comes in the standard silver/gray color with red, black, and white knobs. Additionally, commonly included with the device’s purchase is an operator's manual, an AC power supply, a DC power supply, a green oxygen hose, and a soft protective field case.
