Background Information and Identification

Apple’s Magic Trackpad seeks to combine the best elements of a traditional trackpad with touchscreen control. The Magic Trackpad pairs with an Apple computer using Bluetooth, with a range of 33 feet (in case you want to control your desktop computer from your neighbor’s yard, I guess).

The Magic Trackpad allows the user to click by pushing down anywhere on the device. The user can scroll, swipe, zoom, rotate, etc. by treating the trackpad similar to a touchscreen device. First released in 2010, the original Magic Trackpad was a complete redesign from the previous Magic Mouse. Another version, the Magic Trackpad 2, was released in 2015, causing the original Magic Trackpad to be discontinued this same year. As of summer 2020, the Magic Trackpad 2 retails for $129, which is almost double the $69 price tag of the original from 2010.

The Magic Trackpad and Magic Trackpad 2 are both thin rectangular surfaces. One key difference is the Magic Trackpad comes in silver, and the Magic Trackpad 2 comes in both silver and space gray.
