Background and Identification
The Moto G 3rd Generation or "Moto G3" was released in July 2015. It sports a 5-inch HD (720p) Gorilla Glass 3 display, a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor (Snapdragon 625 for Turbo Edition), a maximum of 16 GB of storage, 2 GB RAM, an Android OS, and has the dimensions of 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.48 inches. The storage can also be expanded up to 128GB with a removable micro SD card. The phone has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. This Moto G supports 4G LTE, has a 2470 mAh battery, and also features a limited degree of water resistance.
The Moto G3 comes in many colors, including black, white, blue, and pink. The phone has a rugged backside with a centered camera. The camera is located within a relatively smooth oval-shaped feature with a slight depression, within which is the Motorola logo. Immediately beneath the camera is a flashlight. The front is sleek with speakers centered above and below the screen.
The Moto G 3rd Generation looks similar to Motorola’s flagship phone, the Moto X. One way to differentiate between the two phones is the SIM card slot: while the Moto X has a SIM card tray on the top edge of the phone next to the headphone jack, the Moto G’s SIM card slot is hidden underneath the back cover. The Moto G also has a lower resolution display than the Moto X, although the difference may be difficult to distinguish.
The 3rd Generation Moto G also looks similar to previous generations of the Moto G line. An easy way to distinguish the 3rd generation model is the strip on the back cover from the camera to the Moto logo. This strip is not present in the previous generations and is similar to that found on the back of the LG G3 and G4 but without the volume rocker.
If you can turn the phone on, you can check the exact phone model you have in the Android OS. Go to "Settings"->"About phone" and you will find the model name and generation under "Model number".
Model numbers used for the many regional variants of this smartphone include XT1540, XT1541, XT1542/43/44, XT1548, XT1550, XT1556, and XT1557.
The Moto G 4th Generation, designed to replace the Moto G 3rd Generation, was released in May 2016.
