Background

The Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 is a handheld camcorder produced and marketed by the Sony Corporation. It was released in March, 2007.

The camcorder is capable of 40X Optical/2000X Digital Zoom which magnifies recorded images. It also provides a higher quality of image zooming than the older models of camcorders produced by Sony.

The Sony Handycam has a memory of 60GB and can store more than 10 hours of video recording. It focuses images with a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® Lens, and has a picture stabilization system that reduces blurriness of the picture due to motion.

The camcorder can also connect to a computer via a USB port, meaning that not only can pictures and videos be moved to other devices, but the camcorder itself can be utilized as a storage device. The Handycam is equipped with Super NightShot® Plus Infrared System which allows the user to capture images that are up to 20 feet even if there is poor lighting.

Identification

The camera is about 5 inches long, 3 inches high, and 3 inches wide. It has a silver plastic case with a black plastic bottom. The outside of the screen panel has the Sony Handycam brand logo, and the specific model written in the bottom left hand corner (i.e., DCR-SR42).
