Background
The SRS-XB13 is a portable wireless speaker produced by Sony. It was released in June of 2021 as a replacement for its predecessor, the SRS-XB12, and was originally priced at $59. Like its predecessor, the SRS-XB13 comes with a carrying strap to make on-the-go listening easier. It’s main features to be highlighted are its IP67 rating for being water and dustproof, a 16-hour battery life for extended play, built-in mic for hands-free calling via the speaker, BLUETOOTH Connection and Fast Pair for android devices, and a USB Type-C port for convenient connectivity. The wireless speaker was made available in Black, Light Blue, Coral Pink, Taupe, Powder Blue, and Lemon Yellow.
Sony’s SRS-XB13 has received relatively mixed reviews since its launch in 2021. Many reviews claim that while the SRS-XB13 remains a budget-friendly speaker like its predecessor for both outside and inside listening, it generally suffers the same issues as most portable wireless speakers in its price range do. These issues primarily being its inability to accurately reproduce deep bass, as well as a low max volume. Sony has since replaced the SRS-XB13 with the SRS-XB100, priced at $59.99 with an improvement to the built-in mic and overall sound quality.
Identification
This model of speaker can be identified by the smooth shell, unlike its XB100 counterpart which has ridges all around it. It also can be differentiated by the Sony logo, which is white on all XB13 speakers. Unlike its XB12 counterpart which is more round around the edges, the XB13 tapers to a slightly harder edge. The model number can be found on the bottom of the device.
