Background and Identification

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (model ST18i) is an Android smartphone introduced by Sony Ericsson in August 2011. Now known as Sony Mobile Communications, Inc., Sony Ericsson was founded as a joint venture between Sony, a Japanese conglomerate corporation, and Ericsson, a Swedish networking and telecommunications company. Sony purchased Ericsson’s share in February 2012, after the release of the Xperia Ray phone.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray features a 3.3-inch display with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels. It includes a Mini-SIM card, scratch-resistant glass, and touch-sensitive controls. It comes with 1 GB of internal storage and 512 MB of RAM. Its internal storage can be expanded using separate microSDHC cards, which can be inserted into the dedicated microSDHC slot. The phone was sold with a 4 GB microSDHC card. The Xperia Ray features an 8-megapixel main camera and a VGA (visual graphics array) selfie camera. This model also includes a 1500 mAh removable battery, meaning its battery is not attached to the inside of the phone with any kind of permanent adhesive, making repair and replacement easier than for non-removable batteries.

The phone includes the Android three-button navigation system with a ‘home’ button in the center of the phone’s bottom bezel (indicated with a house-shaped button), a ‘back’ button on the left side of the ‘home’ button (indicated with an arrow pointing to the left), and a ‘show-all-open-applications’ button on the right side of the ‘home’ button (indicated by a square). The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray includes the name “Xperia” printed in capital letters in the center of the phone’s bottom bezel and in the center of the phone’s backing.
