This guide will show you how to replace the hard drive of the Dell Inspiron 11-3168. Before starting, make sure both the laptop AC adapter and battery are disconnected prior to replacing any part or component.

Note: This guide does not apply to Celeron eMMC systems. These have the storage space soldered to the board and require a motherboard replacement.

    • Before you begin, be sure to turn off your laptop and unplug it from the outlet.

    • Using a Phillips #00 screwdriver, remove all nine 7.5mm screws from the bottom case of the laptop.

    • Remove the bottom case of the laptop by gently prying along the seam with a plastic opening tool.

    • Remove the one 7.5mm screw that is holding the battery in place.

    • Disconnect the battery cable from its motherboard socket by gently pulling it towards the battery.

    • Pull parallel to the battery, not straight up.

    • Remove the battery.

    • Unscrew the two 7.5 mm Phillips #00 screws.

    There's a third screw hiding under the flat grey ribbon seen at the top of the first image. This needs to be removed as well before you can pull out the HD sled/tray.

    • Lift the hard drive out of the laptop.

    Additionally, to fully replace the hard drive, four screws on the side of the sled must be removed before you can swap out the HD.
