Introduzione

This manual is for repairing the USB port of your e-reader. It can be used for any type of e-reader, but some steps will be slightly different. This example uses the Kobo Glo HD. An iFixit set was used for this repair, together with a soldering station that enlarges the image under a camera. This is recommended because the parts are very small.

    • Make sure to store the screws somewhere you won't loose them, like on your FixMat.

    • All you have to do is lift the black locking arm that is keeping the ribbon cable in place. See picture.

    • Carefully remove the motherboard from your e-reader.

    • Check the voltage of all six pins: if a pin shows no voltage level this probably means the pin is loose.

    • Use as much flux as possible (i.e. with the use of a flux marker).

    • A magnifying camera makes the job a lot easier.

    • Make sure that the pins are not touching each other.

    • Carefully reassemble the parts.

    • Make sure that the e-reader functions properly before completely reassembling and closing it.

I needed to see how the USB plug was aligned on the motherboard and your guide showed me exactly this. Since I am not able to solder I will ask someone else to do the job, but at least I know I tried my best. Thank you.

There was one on Ebay

There was one on eBay, there are ways to get Kobo to replace but they need receipt for 12 months.

They will offer coupons to buy newer unit.

WHY TF did they make the charge port so weak, so we can break over time and buy new device. F-that. Anyways that's what we did.

Still looking for affordable USB port replacement, some used units cost as much as the replacement parts.
