Hi! My name is Aviance Davalos and I am currently attending California State University, Los Angeles.
Education
At Cal State LA, I plan on pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree for Civil Engineering. As of right now, I am taking a technical writing class that has allowed me to be a part of this experience and wonderful community.
Aspirations
I am hoping to finish college at Cal State LA, specializing in Structural Engineering. After college, I would like to get a job working in the design and structure of roller coasters. However, I am also interested in working with other structural projects, such as houses and bridges as well.
Skills
Some of my skills include working with SolidWorks, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. I also have experience in soldering, stripping and connecting wires, hand-sewing, and using different kinds of tools. I am able to follow instructions very well and have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Projects
In college, I have worked on some big projects, especially since taking some of my engineering courses. One of them has included designing an ROV with a team of students. This project took months of preparation where we acquired skills such as soldering, and gaining experience with a software program (SolidWorks) to create a propeller for our ROV. We also learned how to strip wires, assemble the structure of the ROV, and understand the basics of circuitry.
Repair Experience
Before taking courses that allowed me to progress in my hands-on projects, I did simple repairs such as fixing broken jewelry, sewing holes in my clothes, and replacing door knobs in my house. I also learned how to assemble items such as exercising equipment, bookshelves, tables, and much more that required various tools for construction.
