Howdy! My name is Ethan Powell, and I am a junior Aerospace Engineering major at Texas A&M University. I'm excited to be a part of the iFixit endeavor to provide repair manuals and guides to online users!
Aspirations
My fascination with outer space and drive to problem solve has led me down this path to pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering. My intention is to seek a job position among the space industry pertaining to exploration missions to celestial bodies like the Moon and Mars. The fields of work most interesting to me right now among aerospace are either propulsion, high speed aerodynamics, or structures.
Skills
I can code in the language Python and am familiar with some C++, I have worked with 3D CAD modeling software such as Solidworks and Autodesk Inventor, proficient with Excel, have knowledge using basic hand tools, and can use the engineering design process to come up with solutions.
Projects/accomplishments
Some engineering friends and I founded a RC aircraft organization at our university. Together we designed, planned, and manufactured a RC plane from scratch using basic building materials like insulated foam board, cardboard, and tape and integrating outsourced electronics into our design for it to successfully fly.
Repair experience
While I may not have very much repair experience starting out, joining iFixit has helped me see the importance in trying to fix versus discard and replace. Most of my repairs and maintenance have been to my bike, but I'm looking to find creative ways to repair the broken things in my life in a way I never had before. I see iFixit as another opportunity to hone in on my problem solving skills, which will further serve me well professionally.
Hobbies
I enjoy traveling to new places, hiking and enjoying the outdoors, exercising, going to concerts, dancing, playing video games, chess, talking about space, and doing Aerospace Engineering!
