Good drawing skills will help you to get fine details
Very cheap and independent of weather conditions (pencil will work from -60°C to +40°C) just make sure to protect paper (water and physical damage)
No need in electricity (permanent or batterers)
Low weight
Low cost

Cons

Same as with using your memory
You will need $1 to pay for paper and pencil
You may need reliable light source (it would be difficult to write during storm or night time)
