Alma Road redevelopment

A substantial part of the Alma Road estate, including the four 23 storey tower blocks near Ponders End, will be progressively demolished and replaced by new lower-rise houses. Enfield Council claims the proposed redevelopment has support of 84% of the current residents.

The plan involves demolition of 717 homes and construction of approximately 800 homes, replacement of retail space and construction of a GP centre and gym.

Work began in August 2014 to provide 38 new homes on land currently vacant at Dujardin Mews (OSM:) with specific information and views from Enfield Council at

The Dujardin Mews site was hoarded up in Sept 2014 for development.

Currently (Oct 2016) Dujardin Mews is nearing completion but is still fenced off at present. Kestrel House and the adjoining playground is now hoarded up awaiting demolition. A temporary footpath provides access to Ponders End Station.

First demolition is due 2014/15 and annual phases are scheduled to 2019/2020.
