MUTCD/Ohio

The Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD) is the standard for road signs, signals, and markings in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is developed by the Ohio Department of Transportation "in substantial conformance to" the national MUTCD developed by the Federal Highway Administration.

The OMUTCD defines the content and placement of road signs. Design specifications are detailed in a separate document, the Sign Designs & Markings Manual (SDMM), which mirrors the national Standard Highway Signs and Markings document. The latest edition of the OMUTCD was published in 2012, but the SDMM has been revised several times since, most recently on April 21, 2023 (as of April 2023).

Usage in OpenStreetMap

A traffic sign specific to the OMUTCD is mapped as a node tagged traffic_sign=US:OH:Z1-2, where "US:OH" is the state's ISO 3166 code and Z1-2 is the sign's alphanumeric designation.

Sign designations

Each standard sign or plaque in the OMUTCD and SDMM is assigned an alphanumeric designation and organized by series. A sign designation follows the same format as in the national MUTCD and SHSD; however, the sign designation for a state-specific sign includes an "H" before the sign number.
