Proposal:Archipelago

Rationale

Map Features includes place=island but does not yet have a means to identify groups of islands.

Proposal

Identify and locate groups of islands Wikipedia:Archipelago big or small with a new place=archipelago.

Optionally show which archipelago an island belongs to be adding is_in:archipelago=* to an island tag.

Tag values

place=archipelago
name=* (standard Map Features tag)
is_in:archipelago=* - Optional, some archipelagos are members of bigger archipelagos.

Individual islands can then optionally placed in the archipelgo:

place=island (standard Map Features tag)
name=* (standard Map Features tag)
is_in:archipelago=*

Proposer's Initial Comment

I have already used this tagging scheme extensively. Due to changes in Query-to-map this Template does not work anymore. You can use Template:Osm-query2. Please replace or delete this use of Osm-query template.

Relations have also been suggested but I find this much easier to get information both into and out of the database. I believe there is nothing to prevent a Relation being used at the same time.
