Proposal/Tagging

The proposal for the revision of street parking has introduced the tag parking:<side>:markings=* for recording markings of parking spaces. This key can be used to record whether a parking space is marked or not (yes/no), or whether single parking spaces are marked or only a whole parking area (single/area).

Furthermore, some mappers might be interested in recording the precise design of the markings (e.g. lines, dots, hooks, surface, colour...), even if this mostly follows typical local patterns.

The proposed scheme can be applied to parking spaces that are mapped on the street centerline (parking:<side>=*) as well as on separately mapped parking spaces (amenity=parking).

Colour

The colour (e.g. white, yellow) can be tagged with parking:<side>:markings:colour=* (for parking as part of the road line) or markings:colour=* (for separately mapped parking).

Type

Use parking:<side>:markings:type=* to map the design of parking space markings in more detail.

Here is a collection of values that could be used. Attention: This scheme is still experimental and should possibly be brought into a better order.

(Values are based on the markings-values of crossing:markings=*, if possible and appropriate.)
