Background and Identification
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY is part of the ASUS TUF brand. Unlike many other laptops of its price range, the FX505DY only uses AMD components: an AMD Ryzen™ 5 3550H CPU and AMD® Radeon™ RX560X GPU. It was released in Q1 of 2019 as ASUS's latest entry-level gaming laptop. The model is no longer manufactured, and costs $899 from Amazon.
The FX505DY is tied for the cheapest model in the ASUS TUF brand still listed on their website. It is made of hard plastic and tested to MIL-STD-810G standard for shock and vibration, temperature, humidity, altitude, and solar radiation. It is generally regarded as having poor battery life and being slightly on the heavier side, but has been praised for its physical toughness.
The FX505DY model comes in two colors: Gold Steel and Red Matter. Gold Steel has a gold ASUS logo and gold keyboard letters. Red Matter has a red ASUS logo and red keyboard letters. Both models have the same dimensions of around 14.2" x 10.3" x 1.1" (360mm x 262mm x 26.8mm) and weigh about 4.9lbs (2.2kg). The label on the back of the laptop has the model number FX505DY in two places.
