Device Identification & Background

The Palm V is a Palm PDA running Palm OS 3.1. A notable feature of this model (and it's successor, the Vx) is that the shell is made of anodized aluminum and is quite durable. It is equipped with a 3.2" LCD with 160x160 pixel resolution and resistive touchscreen functionality. Inside the device is the Palm OS 3.1 and 2 MB of flash memory. The unit measures 80mm x 115mm x 10mm and weighs 4.1oz.

The unit is powered by a built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery. This battery is charged via the HotSync Cradle. The original cradle utilized a Serial connection and requires a power supply which plugs into a Y connector with a custom plug. There are some cables/cradles which support it and provide a USB interface.

The primary difference between the Palm V and the similar Palm Vx is that the latter comes with 8 MB flash memory (the V only has 2 MB). The dimensions, however, are identical.

The original Palm V also shipped with a plastic and plastic/metal combo stylus. Either works fine with the touchscreen.
