Background and Identification

Released on July 28, 2014 to replace the Galaxy S4 Mini, the Galaxy S5 Mini is the smaller mid-range variant of Samsung's Galaxy S5 line of smartphones.

The S5 Mini retains many of the same features as the S5, including the faux-leather backing, fingerprint scanner, and IP67 dust/water resistance rating. Internally however, the components are much more budget-oriented than the S5. Differences include a slower 1.4 GHz quad-core processor, a smaller 4.5" 720p Super AMOLED display, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 MP rear-facing camera, and only 16 GB of internal flash storage.

With a 4.5 in screen, the S5 mini is slightly larger than its mini predecessor, the S4 mini, with a 4.3 in screen. The S5 mini also has an increased screen resolution with a pixel desnity of 326 ppi compared tot he S4 mini's pixel density of 256 ppi.
