Sharing data between two GPS units wirelessly

You can exchange tracks and other info with another eTrex or Oregon device (Edge devices does not seems to work), this is done using Ant+.

To do so:

  1. Select Share Wirelessly in the "Power Key Menu"
  2. Select Receive for the device that should receive the data
  3. Select Send for the device sending the data and then further select what to send
  4. Follow further the on-screen instructions

Current consumption

With a voltage of about 2.7 Volt (NiMh batteries) the current consumption is about:

  • 55 mA without back-light
  • 60 mA for 3 ticks up (which is enough for me with darkness)
  • halve-way 80 mA
  • full back-light 140 mA

All measurements are done with the GPS static and locked. The measurements are not really accurate, the current varies and I could only measure multiples of 10 mA, so 55 mA means that the current was varying mainly between 50 en 60 mA.

When the GPS is moving the current consumption is higher. 60 mA with 2200 mAh batteries would mean 36,7 hour operating time.
