With a building:condition=* tag, it can be documented how good the condition of the original building is. This tag has been suggested for castles but it can it be used for other buildings as well.

It's in use although it seems that there was never a discussion or proposal.

building:condition=good These are currently the most abundant values. The definition of these values is unclear.
building:condition=average
building:condition=poor
building:condition=preserved The building is still in a good (preserved) condition.
building:condition=renovated The building was in a ruinous condition but got renovated.
building:condition=reconstructed The building was completely vanished but got reconstructed in the old style.
building:condition=partly_ruinous The building is partly in a ruinous condition.
building:condition=mainly_ruinous The building is mainly in a ruinous condition.
building:condition=completely_ruinous The building is completely in a ruinous condition.
building:condition=recognizable_remains There are only some recognizable remainders of a building visible.
building:condition=ruinous The building is in a ruinous condition (of unknown grade). This is equivalent to ruins=yes.
