The tag power=converter is used to map a converter: a device allowing power transmission between alternating and direct current (HVDC) electrical power networks. They are often located in a converter substation (605-01-07) comprises an HVDC converter device operating at high voltage.

How to map

Add a node or area at the location of the converter and tag it with power=converter and, if known, with the additional keys detailed below. Typically a converter is placed in a dedicated building called valve hall. In this case add all tags to the building.

Converter types

Key Value Comment
converter lcc A line-commutated converter (LCC) uses thyristor based valves and is the most common type. This is the default value.
vsc A newer type is the transistor-based voltage source converter (VSC).
back-to-back A back-to-back converter couples two AC networks that are not synchronous or operate at different frequencies. There is no external DC power transmission link
