The outdoor=* key is used to indicate that the feature it is attached to is - fully or partially - outdoors. It is typically used for features that exist both indoors and outdoors.

Most frequently it is used with the value outdoor=yes. The complementary tag is indoor=yes; however, indoor=* with the values other than yes are defined and heavily used in the Simple Indoor Tagging. Please be careful for using outdoor=* with the value other than yes to avoid confusing different tagging schemes. Please also note a feature that has both indoor and outdoor properties can have both tags.

If the feature itself is located outdoor, you may use more common tag location=outdoor instead.

Example

Sports climbing can be performed at natural rock faces and artificial structures. Some artificial facilities have indoor and outdoor routes, thus a typical tagging would be:

leisure=sports_centre
sport=climbing
outdoor=yes
indoor=yes
and further details following the climbing scheme.
