As required by the EU Bathing Waters Directive, the European Environment Agency (EEA) holds a publicly available dataset of all bathing waters in the EU member states, Albania, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. In this dataset, every water has a unique identifier, the bathingWaterIdentifier.

This key marks this identifier on a mapped object.

How to map

The tag is placed on the object, that would be identified the "bathing site". In case of lakes, mostly on lakes themselves, at rivers or beaches often on the beaches. A good rule of thumb is to place the tag on the object, which also has the site's name=* tag.

Additionally, if provided in the EEA's dataset, the bathing water's URL can also be specified using url:bathing_water=*.
