Key:service branch

service_branch
Description
To indicate the type of units that occupy a military base or facility
Used on these elements
Useful combination
Status: undefined

The key service_branch=* may be used to indicate what type of unit uses a military base or facility e.g. whether it may be an infantry or artillery unit, a Fighter squadron, a Submarine base etc. It would be added to military=base.

The same tagging should be used regardless of whether the facility is for Regular, full-time forces, or part-time, volunteer Reserve forces. Where multiple services use the same facility, the tag should be designated to the largest service using that facility, for example an Infantry base that also houses an Artillery detachment would be shown as service_branch=infantry.

It also applies to stand-alone military buildings such as recruitment offices.

How to map

Add service_branch=* to a feature which is tagged with military=base.
