Use the source:geometry=* tag to indicate the source of the geometry of objects added to OpenStreetMap. "Geometry" in this case means the shape and position of a node or way. If added to a way, there is no need to add the tag to the individual nodes that make up the way.
- This tag is especially useful when an object's geometry has been imported as it helps to keep a record of where the original data came from.
- The tag can also be used when tracing from aerial imagery, however you may wish to add a source to the changeset instead (which several editors, like iD, already do automatically).
Keep in mind that the current recommendation is to add source tags to the changeset instead of individual objects. For more information, see the Key:source page.
For tagging sources of other non-geometry information see source=*.
Other versions of this tag are used for the same purpose:

How to map
- Main article: Key:source
Values and usage are pretty much same as with source=* key:
- source:geometry=Bing + source:geometry:date=2012 — object was traced from Bing'12 imagery. Please note that Bing imagery date is not the same date when you trace it!
- source:geometry=survey + source:geometry:date=2014-11 — you can use current date if you place objects based on current information and your personal observations in OSM.
