Squared blue signs with a number are used to indicate a "recommended", "suggested" or "reference" speed. The sign does not have any binding legal effect, but may lead, if ignored, to possible disadvantages in court.

This tag has effectively been superseded by maxspeed:advisory=*, which is in use on 47 times the number of ways as of May 2019.

Example

recommended_speed=80

Possible conflicts

This proposol might conflict with Proposed features/maxspeed none

The "Autobahngeschwindigkeitsverordnung" states the same as the regulation concerning sign #380 (above, which is used to regulate particular roads) for motorway and roads with a physical separator in general: That, if no other rule in place, drivers "are suggested" ("wird empfohlen") not to exceed a speed of 130km/h (even on good road and weather conditions).

On the road this is merely indicated at the borders:

tagging on Autobahn as recommended_speed=130 would make Proposed features/maxspeed none obsolete for german motorways.
