An advertising billboard (also called a hoarding) is a large outdoor advertising device, typically found in high-traffic areas such as alongside busy roads. It's either supported by a wall, or grounded and supported by one pole (or several poles). The size is an important characteristic. A billboard can be lit in different ways, and might be animated.
How to map
Create a node at the location of the billboard. Then put the advertising=billboard tag on it. You can add more details about it using these tags:
- Technical details
- support=* - what is used to support the billboard (trunk, poles, wall, ground ...)
- size=* - the dimensions of the billboard itself (omitting its support)
- height=* - the height of the billboard (including its support)
- lit=* - is the billboard lit?
- luminous=* - is the billboard luminous?
- animated=* - is the billboard animated? By which method?
- sides=* - how many sides does the billboard have (generally 1 or 2)
- Management
- Content and visibility
- message=* - the kind of content shown on the billboard
- display_surface=* - the surface dedicated to the display of message (without the frame)
- orientation=* - how is the billboard directed compared to people/traffic flow
- direction=* - how is the billboard directed (using cardinal points)
- visibility=* - how far is the billboard visible?
Common sizes
- DIN 683's "18/1 landscape"; 356 cm × 252 cm visible area (roughly 18 ISO A1-sized sheets, hence the name)

A mast, with billboards on one or more levels, aligned in 3 directions. The billboards are attached to the mast or a cantilever. The mast can be on private or public land. The billboards can be seen from a very long distance. Due to the height of the mast and the size of the panels, the tower can serve as a guide when approaching the shopping park. |
