Rope tow, also known as ski tow, handle tow or bugel lift. A tow-line for skiers and riders. The passengers hold the rope by hand or use special tow grabbers (nutcrackers).

This is just one classification among several cable/wire based lifts/transportation types listed under Key:aerialway. See also WikiProject Piste Maps.

How to map

Draw a way along the route of the cable, and set this aerialway=rope_tow tag on this way. The direction of the way should indicate the ascending direction. E.g., the way should point from the valley station to the mountain station.

Additional features

Position nodes at either end of the rope. These nodes might be tagged with aerialway=station.

If you know the position you can also map support pylons by positioning nodes in the middle of the way, with the tag aerialway=pylon.

Similar tags

aerialway=drag_lift - more generic tag for this type of lift.

aerialway=t-bar, aerialway=j-bar, aerialway=platter - other similar types of drag lifts.
