Tag:culvert=inverted siphon

culvert=inverted_siphon
Description
A U-shaped tunnel that allows a waterway to cross an obstruction.
Group: Waterways
Used on these elements
Requires
Status: in use

An  inverted siphon is a U-shaped culvert that allows one waterway cross an obstruction, by flowing down and then back up.

This is an unusual feature because water can not normally flow upwards, as shown in the diagram.

How to map

Tag the waterway as waterway=* + tunnel=culvert + culvert=inverted_siphon.

Example: Photo | OSM

Non-inverted siphons

 Non-inverted siphons (or 'normal' siphons) are not tunnels, and should not use this tag. Instead, use man_made=pipeline + location=overground.

Example: Photo | YouTube.
