A bump hazard is a bump in the road which may be hazardous to motorists.

This tag covers both artificial bumps and natural bumps in the road that form over time as the roadway deteriorates. For speed bumps or speed tables see traffic_calming=*. Traffic calming devices themselves should not normally be tagged with hazard=bump.

How to map

Bump hazards may be mapped in the following ways:

  • Place a node at the location of the bump hazard traffic sign, tagged traffic_sign=hazard (or code) + hazard=bump.
  • Tag a node along a highway=* way at the location of the sign
  • Tag the section of highway=* where the bump hazard is present.
