hgv=yes ("heavy good vehicle") is applied where truck access is legal, not obvious from other tags and where it is not explicitly designated for trucks (that would be hgv=designated).

If access to all vehicles differs from general access, using vehicle=* would be a better idea.

If access to all motor vehicles differs from vehicle access or general, using motor_vehicle=* would be a better idea.

If access applies to everyone, then using access=* is a better idea.

Cases where this tag is not applicable

  • road - for example motorway with highway=motorway where truck access is legal - not tagged explicitly as it is obvious (adding vehicle=yes also would be pointless)
