The tag railway=junction is used to map a named junction where railways diverge or converge.

In the context of rail transport, a "junction" is a place at which two or more railway routes converge or diverge. This implies a physical connection between the tracks of the two railways (assuming they are of the same gauge), provided by points (US: switches) and signalling.

How to map?

Use the railway=junction tag on node where the railways converge/diverge. Add the tag name=* with the commonly-used name for the junction. Unnamed junction are not mapped with this tag.

Also see railway=switch, used to map the points ("switch" or "turnout") where trains can change from one track to another track.
