The tag utility=sewerage is added to a feature (such as a marker=*, man_made=street_cabinet or building=service) to specify that it is part of the infrastructure related to waste water collection, transmission and processing from consumers to treatment facilities and natural return

Once water has been consumed for any usage, it requires to be collected and safely transmitted to processing plants as to be returned to rivers. Sewerage is an activity that fulfill these needs by running complex utility networks. Consumers aren't only domestic but industrial also with specific facilities for sake of safety.

It shouldn't be confused with drinkable water transmission which is a different activity. See utility=water.

Water utility usually corresponds to UN International Standard Industrial Classification classes 3700 (Sewerage).
