The tag water=rapids is used for mapping the area of river that contains whitewater rapids, a fast-flowing, often turbulent, section of a watercourse such as a river, often containing exposed rocks or boulders.

How to map

Draw closed way around the part of river area containing rapids and tag as natural=water + water=rapids. Additional natural=water + water=river areas can be drawn upstream and downstream from the rapids and should not overlap the rapids area.

This is an additional feature and rapids should be always mapped on the waterway=* centerline as well to indicate obstacle for routing on water bodies. See waterway=rapids and whitewater:rapid_grade=* for more details.
